This page explains how to delete your Bamgbopa account, an app by Total Serenity Ltd, and exactly what happens to your information when you do.
Delete your account in the app
This is the quickest way. It takes effect straight away.
- Open Bamgbopa and sign in.
- On your circle, tap Profile at the top.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account.
- If you like, tell us why you're leaving (app 1.1.0 and newer). This is optional.
- Type DELETE to confirm, then tap Delete my account.
Before you go, you can download a copy of your data from the same screen, with Download your data.
Can't get into the app? Ask us by email
Email support@bamgbopa.com from the email address you sign in with, with the subject “Delete my account”. We'll confirm it's you, then delete your account within 30 days and let you know when it's done.
What is deleted
- Your profile: your name, photo, what you can help with, and everything else on it.
- Your friendships, friend requests and invite codes. You disappear from your friends' circles.
- The people you've blocked.
- Introductions you sent or received, and your “Did this help?” answers.
- Your asks, with every reply and offer on them, and what you said on other members' asks.
- Your phones and notification settings. Notifications stop at once.
- Your friendship notes choice, and the record of notes sent to you or marked as read.
- Vouches you wrote, and vouches about you. Invites to your circle you sent or received after an introduction.
- Your login, including your email address.
What is kept, and why
| Kept | Why |
|---|---|
| Messages you sent, shown as from a “Deleted member” | So the other person keeps their side of the conversation, including anything they may need as evidence. |
| Introductions you passed on or suggested as the friend in the middle, without your name (a note you added, or the words of your suggestion, are deleted). Suggestions still waiting end. | So the two people you introduced keep each other. |
| Suggestions a friend made for you to meet someone, in the others' data downloads as with a “Deleted member”, for up to 90 days after they ended | So the other people keep their record, and a “no” goes on protecting them for those 90 days. |
| A copy of a vouch about you that someone reported, with your name and the writer's | So the report can still be reviewed. Deleted two years after the report is closed. |
| Reports you made, without your name | So they can still be reviewed. |
| Messages you sent to the Bamgbopa team (Contact us, or a story you shared), without your name | So we can still act on them. A story you allowed us to share stops being used straight away; if it was posted, we take it down within seven days. |
| Reports other members made about you, with the name you used (and the copy of an ask or a vouch of yours that was reported) | So deleting an account can't be used to erase a complaint. |
| Only if you were reported for putting a child at risk: your account details, your profile photo, and the report with anything copied into it | Because the law requires it. If we report child sexual exploitation or abuse to the National Crime Agency, we must keep these for one year (and the Agency's reference for five years). While such a report is being looked into, they are kept for up to 90 days. Then they are deleted. |
| The activity log, with your identity removed | For safety and overall statistics. |
| One line with no name or email: the day the account was deleted, the day it was made, and how many friends it had | So we can count how many people leave, and how long after joining. Nothing in it points back to you. |
| If you told us why you were leaving (app 1.1.0 and newer): your answer and any short note, kept apart from your account, without your name (a note with a phone number, email, handle or link is not kept) | So we can learn why people leave. Answers are added to our totals only in groups of at least three, so none can be matched to one person, and deleted within two years. |
Routine backups are kept for a limited time, and deleted information disappears from them as they are replaced.
