Our standard
Bamgbopa is an app made by Total Serenity Ltd, the developer named on its Google Play listing. We do not tolerate child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) of any kind, on Bamgbopa or arranged through it. That includes:
- child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form: images, videos, drawings, text or links to it;
- grooming: building contact or trust with a child in order to abuse or exploit them;
- sexual extortion (“sextortion”) of anyone under 18;
- trafficking, or offering, arranging or advertising the sexual exploitation of a child;
- anything that sexualises children, or that asks for, offers or points to such material;
- using Bamgbopa to find, contact or get access to a child.
Anyone who breaks this standard is removed from Bamgbopa permanently, and we report it to the authorities.
Adults only
Bamgbopa is for adults. Everyone must be 18 or over and confirms this when they join, and people can only join when invited by someone who knows them. If we learn that a member is under 18, we close their account.
How Bamgbopa is built
- No public profiles, feeds or search. Members see only their friends and their friends' friends.
- Nobody can message a stranger. First contact always goes through an introduction that a mutual friend agrees to pass on and the other person agrees to accept.
- Messages are text only. Members can't send each other photos, videos or files.
- No contact details in profiles. Phone numbers, email addresses and links are blocked, so first contact can't be moved somewhere else.
- Photos are optional and appear only on a member's own profile. Our team can remove any photo.
- Block and report from anywhere: any profile, conversation, ask or vouch. A child-safety report about an ask or a vouch hides it from everyone at once, until we have looked.
How to report a concern
A child is in danger now
Call the emergency services first: 999 in the UK, 112 in Nigeria. Then tell us.
In the app
Open the person's profile, your conversation, their ask or their vouch, tap Report and choose A child's safety. (In app version 1.0.0, choose Something else and say it is about a child's safety.)
You can also email support@bamgbopa.com with “Child safety” in the subject. You don't need to be a member to report.
Please don't screenshot, save, forward or share any image you think shows a child being abused, even to report it. Tell us where you saw it and we'll find it.
You can also report directly to the authorities. In the UK: CEOP, the National Crime Agency's child protection command, and, for abuse images or videos found anywhere online, the Internet Watch Foundation.
What we do with a report
- A report about a child's safety alerts our team's phones straight away, and we look at it before any other report.
- When we find CSAE, we remove the material and permanently ban the account.
- We keep the records the authorities need to act, securely and only as the law allows. When we report to the National Crime Agency, we keep what was reported and the account details of the person reported for one year, even if they delete their account, and the Agency's reference for five years, as the law requires.
- We never tell the reported person who reported them.
Working with the authorities
- Total Serenity Ltd is based in the UK. As the Online Safety Act 2023 requires, we report child sexual exploitation and abuse content to the National Crime Agency.
- Where the people involved are in another country, we also tell the authorities there, such as the Nigeria Police Force.
- We respond to lawful requests from the police and other authorities, and help with their investigations.
Child safety contact
We have a designated contact who can speak about how Bamgbopa prevents and responds to child sexual abuse and exploitation. Email support@bamgbopa.com with “Child safety” in the subject.
