Accessibility statement

We want everyone to be able to use Bamgbopa, whatever their sight, hearing, movement or way of thinking. This page says how accessible the app and this website are, what we are still improving, and how to tell us if something gets in your way.

Our aim

Bamgbopa is run by Total Serenity Ltd. We aim for the app and this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, the standard most organisations in the UK and around the world work to. We check every update against it before it is released.

This website

You should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 400% without text spilling off the screen or needing to scroll sideways;
  • use every link, menu, question and form with a keyboard alone, with a clear outline showing where you are, and a “Skip to content” link at the top of each page;
  • use a screen reader such as NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver or TalkBack: pages have headings in order, pictures have text descriptions, and form fields have labels;
  • stop movement: the moving picture at the top of the home page has a Pause animation button, and if your device is set to reduce motion, nothing moves at all;
  • change colours, fonts and spacing with your browser or device settings without losing anything.

Text and its background are at least 4.5 to 1 in contrast throughout, and the site uses no cookies, pop-ups or time limits.

The app

From version 1.3.0, you should be able to:

  • make the text larger with your phone's font size setting: the app follows it;
  • use TalkBack, Android's screen reader: buttons, links, headings, tick boxes and choices are named and say whether they are on or off, every text box is labelled, and decorative arrows are kept quiet;
  • choose light or dark: the app follows your phone, or you can pick one in your profile;
  • turn off movement: with Android's “Remove animations” setting on, or with Less movement chosen in your profile, the welcome pages stay still and the opening animation doesn't play. Otherwise it plays each time the app starts: about three seconds before the welcome pages, and about a second and a half once you're signed in. A tap skips it, and it never plays while TalkBack is on;
  • tap comfortably: the main buttons, choices and settings rows are 48 points tall or more, as Android suggests, and every control is well above the 24-point minimum the guidelines ask for;
  • go through your tree person by person with TalkBack: each circle says who the person is, which friend connects you, and what they can help with;
  • read everything: words are at least 4.5 to 1 in contrast in light and dark, and borders, tick boxes and the tree's lines and outlines at least 3 to 1.

What isn't fully accessible yet

We know about these, and we are working on them:

  • Names in the tree. To fit the picture, the tree shows first names only, and shortens long ones. Tap a person to see their full name.
  • Testing with disabled people. We have checked the app against the guidelines, but we haven't yet tested it with people who use screen readers, switch access or voice control every day. We plan to before Bamgbopa opens to everyone, and we will update this page.
  • iPhone. Bamgbopa is on Android only during the pilot. When the iPhone version arrives, it will be built to work with VoiceOver and Dynamic Type.

Signing in uses a six-digit code we email you. It lasts 10 minutes, and you can ask for a new one if it runs out.

Information in other formats

If you need our terms of use, privacy policy or any other page in a different format, such as large print, plain text, an easy-read summary or a document your screen reader handles better, email support@bamgbopa.com with “Accessibility” in the subject. We will reply within 5 working days.

Tell us about a problem

If anything in the app or on this website is hard to use, please tell us, even if it seems small:

  • email support@bamgbopa.com with “Accessibility” in the subject, or
  • in the app, open Profile and choose Contact us (Send feedback in versions before 1.3.0).

Tell us which page or screen, what you were trying to do, and, if you like, which phone, browser or assistive technology you use. We will reply within 5 working days and tell you what we will do about it.

If you're in England, Scotland or Wales and you're not happy with how we respond, the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) gives free, independent advice on equality and discrimination. You can call them on 0808 800 0082.

How we test

We last checked the app and this website on 16 October 2026, before releasing app version 1.4.1. We:

  • ran automated accessibility checks (axe-core) on every page of this website, in light and dark, at phone and desktop sizes;
  • measured the contrast of every text and background colour in the app and on the website;
  • checked that every page works with a keyboard and reflows at narrow widths without sideways scrolling;
  • reviewed every app screen we changed against WCAG 2.2 AA and Android's accessibility guidance, and ran automated checks on those screens.

We check again with every update, and review this statement at least once a year.
